The Evergreen SkyTrain: One of the Things That Changed the Tri Cities

If you’re thinking about buying a home in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam or Port Moody, transportation is definitely something worth understanding.

The Evergreen Extension opened in December 2016, bringing SkyTrain service directly into the Tri Cities for the first time. The 11 kilometre extension added six stations and connected Coquitlam and Port Moody to the broader Metro Vancouver transit network. 

Today, the Millennium Line runs from VCC Clark through Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam, all the way to Lafarge Lake Douglas Station. 

The six stations along the Evergreen Extension are:

Burquitlam
Moody Centre
Inlet Centre
Coquitlam Central
Lincoln
Lafarge Lake Douglas

For homeowners, the SkyTrain isn’t simply about getting downtown. It has helped connect neighbourhoods to shopping, schools, recreation, employment centres and other communities throughout Metro Vancouver.

And the areas surrounding these stations have continued to evolve, with new housing, restaurants, businesses and community spaces developing around transit.

In 2024, the six Evergreen Extension stations averaged nearly 20,500 boardings on weekdays, showing just how much transit has become part of everyday life in the Tri Cities. 

As someone who grew up in Coquitlam, I’ve seen how much the Tri Cities have changed over the years. The arrival of SkyTrain was a major milestone, and today it is simply part of what makes living here so convenient.
