I grew up here. I attended Parkland Elementary, went on to Como Lake Middle School, and eventually graduated from Centennial Secondary School. I moved away for a short period of time, but like many people who grow up here, I found my way back. Coquitlam is where I chose to put down roots, raise my family and call home.

That personal connection gives me a perspective on Coquitlam that goes beyond looking at a map or reading market statistics.

A Community That Offers So Much

One of the things I love most about Coquitlam is the balance between community, nature, schools, recreation and accessibility.

You can have the convenience of being close to shopping, restaurants, transit and major routes while still feeling connected to nature. Coquitlam is surrounded by an incredible variety of parks, trails, green spaces, lakes and recreational opportunities.

From Mundy Park and its beautiful walking trails to the many neighbourhood parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities throughout the community, there are so many opportunities for families to get outside and enjoy where they live.

For me, these aren’t just places I’ve researched. They are places that have been part of my life for decades.

Schools and Family Life

For families considering a move to Coquitlam, education is often one of the biggest factors in choosing where to live.

Coquitlam is part of School District 43, which serves Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. The district offers a wide range of educational options, including French Immersion programs, which are an important consideration for many families.

French Immersion can be particularly attractive to parents who want their children to develop strong French language skills while attending school in the Tri Cities.

As a parent myself, I understand that choosing a home isn’t simply about the house. You’re choosing a neighbourhood, a community, schools, parks, activities and the environment where your children will grow up.

That’s one of the reasons I believe Coquitlam continues to appeal to families.

Another reason I love Coquitlam is that there isn’t one single Coquitlam lifestyle.

You can find established neighbourhoods with mature trees and larger lots, newer communities with modern homes and townhomes, condos close to transit and shopping, and neighbourhoods that offer beautiful views and access to nature.

Whether you’re looking for your first condo, a townhouse for a growing family or a detached home where you can put down long-term roots, different parts of Coquitlam offer very different experiences.

That’s why I always encourage buyers to look beyond the property itself.

Where will you spend your mornings? Where will your children go to school? How close are you to parks, recreation, shopping and transit? What does the neighbourhood feel like on a Saturday morning?

Those details matter.
